But the cause of my distraction is worth noting.
Socialist Alliance is just finishing off its environment charter process. This involved some open ended discussion about what sort of policies we'd project for the present carbonated planet. Part of that exercise was the use of a "wiki" for the first time as in the past we had overwhelmingly been restricted to utilising email groups on Yahoo to conduct a national discussion.
Supplementary options in a country the size of Australia are very expensive ones indeed: telephone hookups -- and interstate travel.
Anyway, our environment wiki exists and you can check it out or the DIY here.. Youc an also read the most recent draft before the charter went to for final edit.I'd extol wikis as the best way for an open committee of many to write a leaflet. Wiki is, of course, the platform that makes Wikipedia happen.
While I consider that the key point of a project like the SA is what it does day to day as a collective political exercise -- the campaigns we run, the street presence we create, etc --a good part of how that is done is finding ways to conduct an open and engaging discussion, involving a very broad layer of people -- SA members as well as others. Its' not one overriding Point of View, but hundreds -- ruled in the final instance by democracy.
So that's the name of the game in my estimation.
