THE BLATHER _ Aboriginal Solution: Children

Joel Beasant is a lyricist and poet who performs with the Sydney rock band, Andorra. He has also been working on projects like Rock the Block -- the 'Block' being the heart of the Koorie community in Redfern. This is a poem he has sent RRN.
Children

Children over board
children from abroad
children from a brood
Of Arab crude.

Children in abuse
Children near us
in the Black abyss
Of violence and piss

Cast-aways are cast-over
half-casts are cast out
by manufactured enemies
from the desert
to the high-seas

Feds wave a ‘mandate’
Clash their mandibles
Spread fear’s pheromones
Through blinded channels

Baby-killers is the cry
A crime as old as time
The parents vilified
and left to reside
in villainy or Villawood

The privileged are
Spared the sword
And reappoint those
Who bestow this reward

March 2006 Interview with Joel Beasant on the Ratbag Radio Network

The Blather talks to our very own genetic designer (who makes a special appearance just to be on the show); chews the fat with a singer in a rock and roll band; tells Tasmanians how they should vote at their upcoming poll;defines what it means to be Aus-tral-ian (yet again!) and says a very very dirty word.
