Update on Farooq Tariq detention

LAHORE:After 9 days of his arrest Farooq Tariq,[pictured] General Secretary Labour Party Pakistan, Friday (14 June) was shifted from Central jail Bahawalpur to Kot Lakhpat jail Lahore. Though it seems comparatively possible now for family members and relatives to call on Farooq Tariq in jail but again it is the home secretary Punjab whose prior approval is must. Home Secretary is also evasive and using delaying tactics to provide LPP lawyer the attested copy of the detention orders, which is a pre-requisite to submit a petition challenging Farooq Tariq arrest in Lahore High Court.

Meanwhile, a political prisoner of Pakistan Peoples Party in Kot Lakhpat jail, Sarmad Mansoor was died of heart attack on Thursday. He was also detained for three months. The death is result of worst prison conditionsand inhuman attitude of the jail authorities. PPP has held the jail authorities responsible for the death as according to PPP sources Sarmad suffered severe mental torture in jail.
