A joint statement by Australia's main environment groups today--World Environment Day -- raises the prickly question of emissions targets. This topic is a major debate within the Socialist Alliance at the present time as while the SA has the most radical targets among electoral parties in the country, the question is still how radical do we need to make them to survive.
You have to recognise that the emission target window available to us (all of us, not just the socialists) places a hefty demand upon historical processes in way of ushering in a sustainable economy within such a short time frame. [And if you think we can achieve such targets with anything short of a socialistic style economy then you are being Utopian.]
But the panic and concern is shifting such that a new statement by the Western Region Environment Centre is very persuasive and insistent on what needs to be done.
With rallies scheduled for this coming weekend, and with the mobilisation at Anvil Hill(see below) in NSW last weekend, LeftClick publishes here a couple of videos to fuel the debate we can't avoid.
