This means they are ideal to give voice to the pluralism and diversity that the blogosphere contains. It also means they are an excellent vehicle for the left with its ideology of do it yourself democracy and the abilities of ordinary people to give voice to thought provoking and talented writing. Should we be together enough to make it happen, and big enough to talk to people from outside of our immediate sphere the blogging carnival is something that fits to twenty first century socialism like a glove.In addition if we're serious about some kind of fundamental regroupment on the international left then we need to talk to each other more regularly and more fluidly. We need to keep the communication open, and carnivals are a great way to do that.
Everyone has a carnival it seems, whether it's genealogy, Buddhists, astrology or cats they are all at it and last year we had the carnival of socialism which sadly tailed off around six months ago. But I come to praise carnivals not to mourn them - for the carnival of socialism is to be relaunched at the beginning of February and is looking for hosts, contributors and ideas for the coming months.
